We were recently sent some of the new Aquabeads 3d to review and unbox on our channel.
If you haven’t seen Aquabeads already, they are little beads that bond together when wet. You add the beads to the layout tray to make various designs, spray them, leave them to dry and you are left with a lovely toy or ornament.
The new Aquabeads 3D are a little different because you make all of the layers in 2D and then assemble them together to make a 3D toy.
We tried out the Disney Pixar Cars 3 Aquabeads 3D in the Lightning McQueen design, and the Cruz Ramirez design.
Henry & Jaxon were really excited to get started with these sets and quickly opened them up to see what was inside.
The pack contains the instructions which also serves as a template for the beads, the layout tray, the beads, a water bottle for squirting and a bead remover tool.
We quickly found that both Henry & Jaxon had a little trouble placing the beads where they needed to go in the layout, so this ended up being a job for Mumma Splat instead. Once each layer had been made it was sprayed with water and then left for 10 minutes to dry.
The layout board was pretty small so we could only make 2 layers at a time. This meant that the making of the 2d layers took around 3 hours to account for placing the beads, spraying and waiting for each to dry.
Once all of the layers were completely dry we assembled the characters using the instructions on the sheet and this is the outcome
They kind of look a bit like they have been in an accident, but they are pretty hard-wearing considering they are made from beads!
Henry & Jaxon played with them for 3 days before the bottom fell off of Cruz, and the spoiler fell off of Lightning McQueen.
These would probably be better for a more careful, patient child who loves crafting, and would be much better as a decorative object rather than a toy but they were great for a few days of playtime.
The beads can be quite sticky when wet and did leave a bit of dye on our white table so make sure you cover up!
